We used the results of these five elections to build the model and to choose its settings, so the replays are not an independent test of its accuracy. What they do show is how the model behaves as the count unfolds. How well it does in K26 will only be clear once the final K26 result is in.

Across the four elections where seats can be compared, and averaged over every saved report, the model's forecast was 0.13 seats per list away from the final result. The partial results were 0.47 seats per list away, and the average of the TV exit polls 0.63.

איך השווינוHow we compared

בכל דיווח שנשמר השווינו לתוצאה הסופית את תחזית המודל, את התוצאות החלקיות ואת מדגמי הטלוויזיה שפורסמו עם סגירת הקלפיות. את התוצאות החלקיות תרגמנו למנדטים לפי הקולות שנספרו עד אותו דיווח. המדגמים הם של כאן 11, חדשות 12 וחדשות 13, וב־K25 גם של ערוץ 14. אחוז הקולות שנספרו בכל דיווח מחושב מתוך סך הקולות הכשרים בתוצאה הסופית, מספר שידוע רק בדיעבד.

At every saved report we compared three forecasts with the final result: the model's, the partial results, and the TV exit polls released when the polls closed. We turned the partial results into seats using the votes counted up to that report. The exit polls are those of Kan 11, News 12 and News 13, plus Channel 14 in K25. The share of the vote counted at each report is measured against the final number of valid votes, a figure known only afterwards.

The measure is the error in seats, averaged per list, with "Other" counted as a single list. The exit-poll average gives each list the average number of seats the channels gave it.

למודל יש יתרון בהשוואה הזאת. המדגמים שבחרנו פורסמו עם סגירת הקלפיות, לפני שנספר קול אחד, ואילו המודל מתעדכן לאורך הספירה ומקבל עוד ועוד נתונים. לכן ההשוואה בדיווח הראשון שנשמר היא הקרובה ביותר לתנאים שווים, אף שגם בו כבר נספרו קולות.

The comparison favours the model. The exit polls we use were released when the polls closed, before any vote was counted, while the model keeps updating as more results arrive. The first saved report is the closest thing to a like-for-like comparison, although some votes had already been counted by then.

The table shows the average error in seats per list for each election, across the reports included in the comparison. The bottom row gives the four elections equal weight.

Each dot shows the error at one saved report. The dotted lines show the error of the TV exit polls, which were released once when the polls closed, so it stays flat. K22's early reports are not part of the seat comparison, so its chart starts at a later report.

For K21 we could not reconstruct the surplus-vote agreements well enough to compute seats, so its chart shows the error in the lists' vote shares instead: half the sum of the absolute differences between forecast and final result, in percentage points of valid votes.
